wait.......the article is saying he banned himself.......

"The cancellation was a decision made by Nine Inch Nails' leader Trent Reznor due to creative differences with MTV involving the planned performance's use of an image of George W. Bush."

he made that decision himself, MTV wasn't putting in too much pressure......so where's the bitching about free speech again??

forgot to say.......im prolly gonna get bitched at by the new NIN fans, not the old NIN fans

Yeah, sort of... I had to reword my original post after re-reading the articles.

I saw Trent et all at Southpark Meadows, live, with David Bowie. I was simultaneously amused and irritated when some of the NIN fans left after their set, not staying for the Thin White Duke. I felt somewhat vindicated later when the two bands played 3 or 4 songs for an encore together simultaneously.

MTV did not want n-i-backwards-n to use the photograph of the man occupying Our White House.

I remember when the Doors appeared on Ed Sullivan they were told not to use the word "higher" in Light My Fire (obscure drug reference, perhaps?). They agreed not to but then did anyway, Ed was furious, wouldn't shake their hands, and they never appeared live on national TV again. Jim Morrison had a way of getting into trouble anywhere he went.

That was censorship then; this is censorship now. Broadcasters do not have the right to tell musicians how they ought to perform.

To take it a step futher, if Britney Spears wants to perform naked with a black spiked dildo shoved up her ass, that would be fine with me!

David
