Rest In Peace Jack Wild, The Artful Dodger

Hey guys.

Jack Wild died yesterday of oral cancer at the young age of 53.
Jack Wild was nominated for an Oscar for his classic performance as the Artful Dodger in the 1968 musical OLIVER!. Along with Oliver Reed's Bill Sikes and Ron Moody's Fagin, Wild made OLIVER! the film it is, that ended up winning Best Picture that year. The movie still holds up with great music (including Wild's memorable and catchy work on CONSIDER YOURSELF and I'D DO ANYTHING) and some of the best performances of Charles Dickens' classic tale.

The geek community will also remember Wild as Jimmy on the HR Pufnstuf series, the little British lad with the Prince Valiant haircut playing around with acid nightmares named Pufnstuf, Witchiepoo and Freddy the Flute.

Wild will certainly be missed. His performance in OLIVER! was one for the ages. His enthusiasm, energy and vulnerability hidden under the confident street urchin persona defined the character of The Artful Dodger and you can see a little of his presence in every version made since, including Roman Polanski's recent OLIVER TWIST. My thoughts are with his friends, family and fans.
