So, what do YOU plan on having done with your remains when you die?

I thought it would be neat to have my ashes shot into space, but my family wouldn't be able to afford that, probably. I don't know if there's a program to have yourself turned into compost for organic farms or such, but I'm guessing not.

My favorite idea for a long time has been to have a trustworthy (and just insane enough) friend carry a bag of my ashes around with a list of people who did me wrong in life.
"Excuse me, sir. Are you _______? Yes? This is from Steve." [Reaches into bag, grabs a handful of me, tosses me in face of bastard.]

Matt said he'd want his ashes mixed into the coffee at Denny's.

I want to be cremated and have my ashes buried. I want to have a coffin and all that, but I can't bear the idea of my body being consumed by maggots and other creepy things.

As I understand, it is cheaper to be shot into space than to have a formal funeral with burial. No, really, funerals are freaking expensive. I'm trying to remember where I read that. It may have been Time.

I want to be buried naked in a pine box under an apple tree with no embalming fluid, so I'll rot fast and return to the earth or whatever and nourish the tree. And my will shall stipulate that on the anniversary of my death in perpetuity, every one shall have Helena Pie.

I recently had to amke all these arrangements, and yes, it is expensive.. the place that handled my stepfather's service several yeas back told James that it would be $8000 just for a viewing and a cremation, and other stuff was extra... We went to the "bargain" funeral home in Corpus for my mom's services... it may sound bad, but I had a lot of medical bills to deal with, and had to call Morgan Stanley to get some funds transferred to do this stuff. They were extremely nice there, really kind and efficient, took care of everything, and the place was nice inside, very well kept up... I thought it was indicative of their thoughtfulness that there were boxes of Kleenex at the ends of the pews. The whole thing cost $3, 560 and everyone was saying how nice it was. We had my mom cremated and will be interring her ashes at my strepfather's plot at a later date.
Personally I would prefer to be buried, because I love cemeteries (go figure) and have to stop and photograph every old one we drive by. I like the idea of turning into eartth and plants, etc. I used to have a set of tarot cards where the figure on the death card was a woman in a grave and her hair's growing upwards into flowers above ground, and I really thought that was a beautiful image. I also decided a long time ago that I want "Down the River of Night's Dreaming" on my headstone, which only seems appropriate.
James says he wants a plain wooden coffin and to get everyone to draw or paint something on it at the service.

Yeah, I know. I won't care at that time, but I care now.

I also thought that if I weren't cremated, it would be cool to have an animatronics wizard fix it so that in the middle of my funeral I would pop up out of the coffin and scream.

Another idea: I'd like to have a life-sized statue/monument made of the following sketch. Hmm. The only question is marble or bronze? Manure might be more apropos.

I want to be creamated... because I don't want to take up too much space... lol. That and I'd rather have my ashes spread somewhere beautiful and be done! It's definitely cheaper than a funeral with the lot of caskets and stuff.

I'm with Joanna... it's expensive, but I love graveyards and I'm terribly fond of coffins. Take note, whoever's around at the time, that I want to be tucked in with a fuzzy blankie and my oldest teddy bear.

I read somewhere that you can pay an exorbitant amount of money to have your ashes put in a glass ball, and sunk in a coral reef. I'd just want my ashes to be scattered somewhere that I cared about. Like my property.

I thought about that, too. Having my ashes scattered somewhere I care about. Problem is, I don't have much of any place I care much about. Would you guys be opposed to tossing my ashes into the crowd at Rocky? It's not rice or confetti, and Alamo does have a portable vacuum.

so essentially you want to have your ashes end up in the alamo drafthouse's vacuum cleaner? creepy. i'm with shawn on this one... since i'll be dead, it doesn't particularly matter to me. donating to science seems interesting, though.

Yeah, I know it's weird. I'll be dead and really won't care one way or the other then. But for some reason, it matters to me NOW.

Ooh, maybe they could take my body into orbit and drop it into the atmosphere to be a meteor. Coolness.
