Ahoy all ye Rocky Horror Fans from ATX. We, The Jolly Garogers Pirate Rock band need your help. We are recording a version of The Time Warp for a Halloween single release this fall. We want to make the song more "piratey" so we are asking you, would like to hear the song with pirate voices and a few words changed to be more about a band of Pirates traveling from 1675, through a time warp, into modern day? Please respongd here or email your opinion to phleabag@jollygarogers.com. Please remember that a great cover song is one you make your own, not one you try to make sound just like the original.

Also, we will be looking for Rocky cast members and fans that can sing the multi-harmony chorus of the Time Warp to join us in the studio in September. Write to me at phleabag@jollygarogers.com if you can sing in key and would like to volunteer your voice!

I've listened to more than a few Time Warp covers. Actually, as it happens, I'm listening to one right now (Stanford Fleet Street Singers, an a capella chorus version). Yes you should certainly make the song your own, as if you don't then you're not really offering anything new and will make the cover eminently forgettable.

Straying too far from the original lyrics can be a dangerous path though. Meat Loaf's "Tear Me Down" (from Hedwig And The Angry Inch) cover comes immediately to mind. The lyrics were changed completely to match Meat Loaf instead of Hedwig and... it just doesn't seem to work. It entirely lost the familiarity of the song that really should have been there (it is a cover after all). Good luck. :)
