I can't believe it. It was 10 years ago today that we* had the last show at Northcross. Time flies when you're having... um, whatever it is I've been having.

* By "we", I mean the Austin Rocky Horror cast, which I had not re-joined at that time. Were "we" still called Lip Service? My tattered memory says the name didn't change to Queerios until the Discount run started in January of '98.

And yes, the only reason I actually remember this is because that last show started 2 hours after the announcement of Princess Diana's death. I remember the mixed reaction of confusion and disgust when I yelled the lines:

"Don't turn back! You'll hit Princess Di!"
<Janet> What was that bang?
"Her tiara in my tire!"

We were "The NorthCross-Dressers" at the time. I had convinced the cast to change our name (back) to that shortly before the Northcross theater decided to ditch us, making that name a moot point.



Also correct. We obviously had to change our name to something else... "Lip Service" was kinda boring (and I had since found several other casts that had used the same name at various times) and "Conniving Vicious Little Two-Faced Brats" just never had much of a ring to it...

I remember seeing the news about Diana over at Wendy's apartment in South austin earlier that night. And arriving to find a mob of freaky people out in the parking lot and going, "I said DISCREET" which was inaudible becausei was having eva the inflatable sheep crammed halfway down my trachea at the time, since chris ger very affectionatey right as i finished blowing her up. Open flames and more bare breasts than you see at the Vortex... we did go out with a bang. James was at worldcon in san antonio and overslept, and drove back... I was thinking, oh, he has toBE here, and then he came in the back door yelling "Daddy's here!"... and he and I played crim alternating scenes... so I turned off the globe for the last time at Northcros...
Whenever i hear "Closing Time" I think about that night.
And then we were on to lots of roadtripping the Rocky Horror living room hows, several shows at UT, and then the Discount cinema *.
