I just returned from Half Priced Books here in Killeen and I came across a book called ROCKY HORRO: From Concep to Cult. I was just wondering if anyone has read this. I got it for $4, I didn't think that was a bad price considering the original price was $19. Please let me know what ya'll think.

It's probably the best book about Rocky Horror there is. The authors were able to interview practically everybody involved, except Tim Curry and Little Nell I think. They tracked down pretty much all of the still living Transylvanians. I thought they spent an inordinate amount of time talking about the falling out between Richard O'Brien and Brian Thomson, but I think that was my only real criticism.

They feature a lot of photos that aren't really seen anywhere else, including several donated by Kimi Wong and quite a few that Larry Viezel let them borrow from his collection. The book is basically a long series of interviews though, which probably won't appeal to some people. It's still in print in the U.K:

But it's out of print in the USA now, though it should be easily available used:

Let me just be the first to say... "DUH!". As it happens, I also scanned a number of photos from the text. Mostly the individual Transylvanian photos, but a few others as well:

It's the only place I've ever seen a photograph of the Andrew O'Bonzo collective or Trevor White (the singing voice of Rocky in the film). The photos of Kimi & Ritz and Richard Hartley were great also, for a Rocky Horror music nerd at least.

It was published in both softcover and hardcover. The binding on the softcover edition tends to fall apart very easily. I wouldn't call the hardcover edition "rare" anymore, but it's still pretty uncommon. Both are well out of print.

The scary part, folks, is that Shawn can actually recite, in alphanumeric order, the ISBN of each print in circulation.

I see copies of From Concept to Cult all the time at Half Price (and i go to all the ones in Austin and the ones in round Rock and San Marcos on a regular basis... I enjoyed it a lot. You can find The Rocky Horor Picture Book by Bill Henkin there often as well, which is a fun read and now probably quite the period piece.... I had it on order before it came out and was waiting for it the way fundamentalists await the second coming.James still has his which is falling to bits and was signed by the cast circa 1984 when he went to college.

I've seen a photo or two from the set of Shock Treatment where cast members were checking out the Bill Henkin book.
