Apparently Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema kissed and made up (or they threw a few wheelbarrows of money at him):

http://www.theonering.net/torwp/2007/12 ... %E2%80%9D/

"The two “Hobbit” films – “The Hobbit” and its sequel – are scheduled to be shot simultaneously, with pre-production beginning as soon as possible. Principal photography is tentatively set for a 2009 start, with the intention of “The Hobbit” release slated for 2010 and its sequel the following year, in 2011."

Now, some might wonder why they're talking about shooting the sequel to The Hobbit when The Lord of the Rings has already been done. I'm assuming that one of two things will happen. Either they'll split The Hobbit in half and make two movies from it, or they'll make The Hobbit and then conjure up something out of whole cloth to go between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. A tentative title for that could be "Movie About Hobbits in an Effort to Milk the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit Properties for All They're Worth".

I dont know if I'd be happy or sad if they split the hobbit into 2 movies, I mean, more time means more of the story can be told, but god damn it I wanna see a dead dragon in the first movie too

Bucket, you get back in the garage!

And more likely, they'd just go the now well-traveled path of Little Shop of Horrors, The Producers, Hairspray, etc. and adapt the musical into a movie: http://www.legallyblondethemusical.com

Milking Hobbits. Not something I think I want to see.

Hobbit II: Electric Boogaloo (you know it had to be said), or
Hobbit II: Hobbiter
Hobbit II: Even Gayer

I'm thinking John Voigt as Bilbo and Dave Chappell as Gandalf.

"Jackson and Walsh have already come up with the plan for a sequel — a film that would link the conclusion of with the start of The Fellowship of the Rings."

I think they really are planning to just pull a whole movie out of their asses (or Tolkien's ass I guess). I mean the whole reason there wasn't a book written about the time between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings is because nothing terribly interesting happened.

OK, I had to check a chronology to verify that not much happened between books:

- Sauron returns to Mordor and begins rebuilding Barad-dur
- The White Council meets for the last time
- Frodo, Merry, and Pippin are born. Frodo's parents die in a boating accident. Bilbo adopts Frodo.
- Aragorn and Arwen meet for the first time
- Balin tries and fails to recolonise Moria

Apart from that, it's basically everyone being all happy and doing whatever they like for the most part. Ding dong Smaug is dead and all that.

Yeah. It's going to be an entire, drawn out love story between Arwen and Aragorn where we have to see an unshaven Vigo and horse-faced Liv making out again and again and again. I may skip that one

There's a whole bunch of stuff they left out of LOTR to get it down to three movies, and lots of it was shot (that is, it exists on film) already.

I heard of someone taking Legally Blonde with him in the Peace Corps and telling the people in the village where he lived that it was a documentary abt life in the USA.

I wouldn't throw either one of them out of the stall for eating oats.

I think Vin Diesel is going to play an elf, and Ashley Judd will be the main old dwarf. Should be interesting. But who will play Dildo, I mean Bilbo?
