I can't see this going over well at all.

At this point, it looks like they're basically removing every woman and child from the ranch. 219 of them and counting so far. It's apparently the largest detention of its sort in Texas history.

As far as I gather, they were originally looking for two people on the ranch - one man and one girl. Apparently they didn't bother talking to the man's probation officer in Arizona beforehand, who knew exactly where he was. The girl, well...

Quote:
...[she] may have been transported from the compound, but using a different name, Marleigh Meisner, a spokeswoman for Texas Child Protective Service said.

"I am confident that this girl does indeed exist," Meisner said. "I am confident that the allegations that she brought forth are accurate."

It's not usually a good sign in an investigation when you have to assert your certainty that someone exists. And this is after they've had days worth of "interviews" with everyone on the ranch, plus search warrants for all computers, hard drives, etc.

401 displaced children now, according to this:

Good luck with that, CPS. And still nobody charged with anything, except for one Class B Misdemeanor for "Interfering with the duties of a public servant".

 Why can't people just leave the Mormons alone?

I understand them wanting to investigate when there's a report of some sort of abuse, which may or may not end up being substantiated. But they seem to have gone with the enormous fucking shotgun approach immediately after getting probable cause to investigate that one case. Sort of a giant "while we're in the neighborhood" type of thing. It looks more like the authorities were just chomping at the bit for any excuse to get in there and start poking around. They took a SWAT team and a helicopter with them, in order to "secure" the temple for crying out loud.

Meanwhile hundreds of people are taken from their homes and "interviewed", while everyone else is prevented from entering or leaving the property. Which makes the whole thing just look like a giant case of religious persecution. In the end, they'll more than likely substantiate some cases of abuse. But I think it's also likely that if you took four hundred random children from any area of the country and investigated them all, you'd end up being able to substantiate a few cases of abuse.

Court: Texas had no right to remove polygamists' children

Surprise, surprise. Too bad it took them a month and a half to figure that out.
