Brigham Young University in Utah has used a couple of different types of aversion therapy in an attempt to "cure" students suspected of homosexuality: http://mormonism.suite101.com/article.cfm/byu_electroshock_aversion_therapy They'd use a plethysmograph to measure sexual arousal in men and show them different types of pictures and porn. If they were aroused by the homosexual porn, they'd receive electric shocks. In some other cases instead of the electroshock they would instead hook up an IV. Then if they were aroused by the "wrong" type of porn, they'd inject a drug that would induce vomiting. Then they'd show the "right" type of porn and inject another drug that induced euphoria. Keep in mind that these were university students they were doing this to, who'd been told that if they didn't participate would be thrown out of school, their church, and probably their families. The students were (one way or another) paying to attend this university. They paid large sums of money to be tortured at their school. Some say these practices ended in the early 1980s, while others say they've continued in different forms (like putting ammonia up their nose) through the present day. |
