...it was never remotely that bad before. Something happened on 11/15 that suddenly started being exploited, apparently.

I've patched the forum software to the latest version. I'm hoping that will fix the issue. If it doesn't, then it'll mean that the random questions you're asked when registering an account have been successfully answered and stored in a spambot database somewhere. We'll see. For now, I have it set so that new accounts have to be manually activated by me before they can post anything. I'll wait and see if the flood of registrations goes away.

Apparently that's exactly what happened. The flood of registrations continued unabated, until I changed the verification question for new registrations. So I suppose it'll be fine now until such time as they have someone figure out the answer to that one, and add it to their database of successful answers. Fun.
