I know- we all know and have heard it, but I thought it was great.

ribbons are the worst way to show support......he is right, give the people over there some CD's to listin to.......or better weapons (cause god forbid if our gov. gives them good weapons) anything......but yea sticking a ribbon on your SUV or H2 is the worst way and you look like a douchebag......cause half of the profits of those ribbons dont even make it to the soldiers.

Half the profits, try NONE. But if Military babe thinks its dandy than who are we who don't get shot at for a living to judge. Personally I think car ribbons are really annoying pieces of shit, as are those lance-armstrong-wanna-be bracelets. But at least those (with the exception of the ones from Wallgreens or the quarter machine in Taco Bell) give their proceeds to the orgs the represent.

I once saw and would love to have a bumpersticker that said "your bumper stickers don't mean shit"

its not nearly as bad as it was during the gulf war or shortly after 9/11. ribbon profits went through the freaking roof. i wouldnt worry too much about the military being short-funded though. it seems as though the military has always taken precedence when it comes to funding. they get more than schools.

my roomate used to take those off of cars when he saw them and kept them. i found it rather pointless, but he has built up quite a collection full of all shapes and sizes...

My ex's brother would take them off of cars and stick them in strange places on other cars.

That or he'd throw them across the parking lot to stick on whatever they came to first.

Ah...

I wish I had thought of it.

To me, bumper stickers often just trivialize things that are really damn important and complex issues, and/or seem like they're only there to be in the face of anyone behind you in traffic... (What I needed for the election, instead of BUSH or KERRY, was a bumper sticker that said "I'm voting for Kerry but only because the pussy ass press made a big deal out of one war whoop and helped screw Dean out of the nomination"... my political feelings are too complex to slap on a bumper sticker...) I have nothing but respect for people in the military, including some of my family members, but I'm very ambivalent about the war itself, and I feel the public got lied to and swallowed it hook line and sinker re our reasons for being there. Plus after people temporarily being brought together after9/11, the war and election sent everyone back to a big antagonistic us vs. them mentality (having grown up seeing people fight just viciously with loved ones over Vietnam, people shot at Kent State, etc., I never thought anyone wpuld have the bad taste to tell anyone "love it or leave it" ever again... but I do tnd to believe a majority of people probably just are selfish dumbasses who don't know how to think rationally rather than just start shit)....
I guess my take on it is people (total strangers on I35 etc) have a right to their opinion, but I don't feel they automatically have a right to mine, especially the ones that are only asking to start an argument.
James and I have had rainbow stickers on our cars becausr I do think its a nice reminder that a good part of the population are gay, going about their lives in this town, spend money, contribute to society, and VOTE (how we in particular do. i don't necessarily have to plaster all over the car for validation)... And I let other people do their ribbon/bracelet of choice (when it becomes a fad it does seem to cheapen the message)...I admit the red ribbon for AIDS awareness will always really mean something to me, and even though it's ceased being trendy to wear, for people who were around at the beginning of this, it continues to mean something...James has a red sequin ribbon sewn onto his Frank corset.
And I do like my little rubber bracelet my old friend Zig got me... it's black and says LIVE WRONG. She knows me well.
