Early voting in Texas starts this Monday, October 20th and runs through Friday, October 31st. No reason is needed in Texas to cast your vote early, any registered voter can do so. Also, you can use any early voting location in your county. Williamson County residents take note... this means you cannot use most Austin locations. The Obama campaign has a web site that will show the closest early voting location to you, its hours, and other nearby locations:

http://www.voteforchange.com

If you're of Democratic leanings, the Austin Chronicle has published its list of endorsements for the general election: http://www.austinchronicle.com/gyrobase/Issue/story?oid=oid%3A689835. They give a decent amount of background on a lot of the lesser known races. City of Austin Prop 2 gets a particularly long treatment.

Whee, I'm all voted! Definitely more activity than I usually see there, but still no line to wait in or anything. At least at my Williamson County suburban location. I'm sure some of the Austin locations will be a bit busier. 8)

Travis County reports that 5.35% of all registered voters have cast ballots in just the first day of early voting. Yow! Overall, close to twice as many people are voting as compared to 2004.

Don't forget this is the last week to do early voting. You have until this Friday, October 31st at around 7pm I think to stop by any early voting location in your county. On election day you'd be required to go to your specific precinct's polling location.

Early voted, as well. Though it was a little more epic, given. Does anybody else live in District 21? I couldn't help but notice that there wasn't a democratic party candidate on the ballot -- for a district that includes a good chunk of Austin, and part of the UT campus, that seemed a little odd. Is this actually the case?

Austin has a number of odd congressional district boundaries passing through it, as a result of them wanting to distribute small chunks of our Democratic voting block into larger Republican districts. There's a map of your district toward the bottom of this page:

http://www.2008racetracker.com/page/TX-21?t=anon

Add to that the fact that Lamar Smith has been congressman there since 1986. Even mounting a reasonable challenge to someone who's been in office for 22 years is not easy.
